Scholar and bassoonist Frank Roberts Cole undertook a research project for identifying 18th century bassoon music during which he visited major libraries in Germany and Austria in the 1960s. After his death in an automobile accident in Europe his parents donated the photographic prints of the scores and parts of bassoon music to the Library of Congress Music Division.
